The Eclipse Hooded Zip-T has become one of our most well known pieces of design, an uncompromising and specialist layer that’s seen on climbers and mountaineers all over the world. For most of our team of climbers it’s a constant in their clothing system for cold and serious routes where each item has to perform exactly as required to earn its place.
The most obvious feature is the hood and collar design which was developed to allow all the separate protective elements to be used individually or together in the worst conditions. The hood or face covering can be comfortably used alone and crucially the face protection can be pulled down without undoing your helmet strap before a strenuous crux. With the hood and collar up it replaces the need for a balaclava as well as reducing the need for a neck gaiter to be carried. The offset front zip ensures a comfortable fit around the face.
Whilst it performs brilliantly over a thin base layer it works especially well next to the skin on stop, start climbing days in cold conditions where managing moisture is critical to comfort. The Italian made, gridded PontetortoⓇ Tecnostretch 187 fabric is the finest of its type. With excellent warmth for its minimal weight and, crucially, a rapid drying time, it’s also durable enough for regular hand washing in base camps on long expeditions. A longer cut tucks in to prevent cold spots and extended cuffs with thumb loops protect the wrists as a vital part of keeping your hands warm.
The Nanda Devi takes inspiration from our more than sixty years of craft and practice in the mountains, drawing on features that made our pioneering waterproof clothing so successful and using these to solve current challenges. Combining durable and proven construction elements with GORE-TEX ePE membrane, the Nanda Devi is a comfortable and packable waterproof jacket for hill-walking, trekking and very wet weather conditions.
Low-profile, external stormflaps are the key traditional feature revived for the Nanda Devi. As well as offering a timeless mountain aesthetic, stormflaps on the centre front zip, the two zippered hand pockets and underarm pit zips make the jacket lastingly waterproof, even in the most severe wet weather.
The strength of the Durian Hooded Fleece lies in its adaptability. Warm, wicking and highly wind resistant, it holds its own as an outer during a high-energy ski tour and as a mid-layer during long days in changeable conditions. By bridging the gap between a fleece and soft-shell jacket, it offers an elegant alternative to multiple layers for those who value simplicity.
The Durian uses 270g/m2 microgrid fleece, with a soft and highly wicking inner face and a densely woven, resistant outer face. The hard outer face adds significant wind resistance and keeps light snow and spindrift at bay, while the soft inner face keeps you warm and comfortable all day, even when you’re working hard. The elastane-bound hood provides additional protection from the elements, and reinforced thumb loops stop the sleeves riding up when reaching for holds or pulling on gloves. Two zippered hand pockets and a chest pocket allow storage of essentials. Combined, these features enable the Durian to transition seamlessly between use as a comfortable mid-layer beneath a shell, to a more substantial outer during high-energy activity in cool but fair conditions.
